Das Schloss mit seiner burgartigen Befestigung spielte in der fr\u00fcher wechselvollen Geschichte Schottlands eine wichtige Rolle und gilt\u00a0somit ein\u00a0nationales Denkmal. Durch seine Lage auf dem steilen Felsen und in der N\u00e4he des Flusses <strong>Forth<\/strong> war es im Mittelalter von gro\u00dfer strategischer Bedeutung. In der Zeit zwischen\u00a01100 und 1685 war hier auch die Hauptresidenz der schottischen K\u00f6nige.
