Der Lauf der <strong>Leuk<\/strong>, einem Nebenfluss der <strong>Saar<\/strong> wurde im 13. Jahrhundert im Auftrag des damaligen Kurf\u00fcrsten innerhalb der Stadt kanalisiert und \u00fcberwindet seitdem den H\u00f6henunterschied zwischen dem Markt und der Saar in diesem Wasserfall. Die Kraft des Wassers wurde hier schon in fr\u00fcheren Jahrhunderten zum Antrieb von Getreide- und \u00d6lm\u00fchlen benutzt. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde hier auch bereits Strom f\u00fcr die Stra\u00dfenbeleuchtung der Stadt erzeugt.
